You know you love “Project Runway.” And because you love it, because you can’t get enough of it, you won’t want to miss a minute of Eleven Minutes.
Two years after fashion maven Jay McCarroll’s big win on the first season of “Project Runway,” filmmakers Michael Selditch and Rob Tate pick up the story of “the next great American designer” and chronicle his year-long journey to prepare for his first independent show at New York’s Fashion Week.
Taking its title from the actual duration of a runway show, Eleven Minutes allows the drama, excitement, humor, sass and complexities of fashion to unfold beyond the limits of any TV episode. Weaving together the daily trials of designing a line of clothing with a humorous exploration of the creative process, Eleven Minutes goes backstage to reveal the difference between reality TV and fashion reality. Getting friends to sew dresses, make shoes, style hair, design jewelry, deliver invitations and provide free publicity are just some of the miracles that our favorite bear of a designer must perform in order to get his show on the runway. In the process, he exposes the stressfully high stakes of the fashion world, makes fun of its inherent absurdity and pours both sweat and tears into his great passion.
Take a walk down the runway, and be a part of the inspiration, frustration and all out fabulousness of Jay McCarroll and his Fashion Week debut. — ROBERT O’SHAUGHNESSY
