Deep Lez Film Craft

Deep Lez Film Craft

Canada, 78 Minute Running Time
Program: Shorts

Freeshow Seymour is the tag-team alias for the collaborative works of Toronto filmmakers Allyson Mitchell and Christina Zeidler, who have been sharing their love of filmmaking and thrift shopping since 1994. Their work is grounded in “Deep Lez,” a practice of reclaiming diss’ed and discarded feminist root values in performance, writing, organizing, teaching, music, film, sculpture and installation. Curated by collaborator Amy Lynn Kazymerchyk, this restrospective collection of their videos addresses themes of childhood trauma, fat phobia, queer fantasies, homophobia, feminist epiphanies, ballerina dreams, ghost pets, misogyny, breakups and breakdowns. Amidst the 15-film program is: Glitter, about two women dancing their fears away; Cupcake, a quest for the perfect dessert; and Pink Eyed Pet, a story about love, which can cause infections even topical treatments won’t cure.
Then be on the lookout for a Made with Deep Love Brunch and Craft Show and Tell, an opportunity to connect with Freeshow Seymour, discuss their films and share your own artwork.
